sometimes i get so excited that i get butterflies

i'm moving to switzerland!

every time i think that i get nauseous with excitement. and then nauseous with apprehension: what if fourth graders are way brattier than third graders? what if my colleagues don't like me? what if i miss my deba too much? what if b accidentally burns my house down while i'm away? what if switzerland is only magical in the summer?

but then i remember gelato.

gelato EVERY SINGLE DAY.

not just a summer fling anymore, a real committed relationship.

i'm moving to switzerland!

things i learned at the overseas recruiting fair

1-teachers on the prowl for the perfect job are like wolves. it was like black friday in professional dress.

2-there is a difference between congo and the democratic republic of congo.

3-bahrain is a real place and it's an island.

4-iowa is the most ironic place to have an overseas recruiting fair.

5-it really is that flat.

6-and desolate.

7-being the only person not wearing a black blazer does not hinder one's success in obtaining job offers.

8-being hyperorganized with a giant, color-coded, tabbed binder is also not crucial to success.

9-a folder with a few disorganized papers (and some stray pistachio shells) works just fine.

10-"hors d'oeurves" in iowa means weenies in barbecue sauce.

11-waterloo, iowa's main "attraction" is the john deere factory. (and they give tours, in case you were wondering)

12-getting invitations to interview in your mailbox feels a lot like receiving valentines in elementary school.

13-sometimes the best option is under your nose the whole time, but you come to that conclusion in a roundabout way because there's another lesson to be learned...i'm moving to switzerland.

right in the thick of it

at the job fair. playing the waiting game. doing the negotiation dance.

i am exhausted.

but you should know that it turns out that sweetpagene is very impulsive. i came with the intention of signing with a school in a spanish speaking country.

dead set on it.

no exceptions.

under any circumstances.

...i might be going to china.
