a few years ago, my brother, corey, got married in australia (to a kangaroo). just kidding, he married a human girl. we made a family vacation extravaganza out of it and we all headed down under to spread some of our small town redneckness around the greater sydney area. we loved australia, but not for its beautiful beaches or rich aboriginal culture or unique wildlife. we loved it for its plethora of hungry jack's restaurants, home of the 39 cent soft serve cone. they were huge! they were cheap! being tightwad ice cream lovers, this was right up our alley! one day i was with my dad and my two other brothers, b and matty, when my dad had a flash of brilliance: why don't we just eat hungry jack's all day today? although it sounded like an idea a 6 year old would have, we all jumped on board. and we did it. we each ate about 8 hungry jack's cones that day. we even kept eating when it started to pour rain on us and our fingers were frozen from holding our cones in the rain. it was a great day.
so this weekend i went with my dad "down south" as we say. it was a family work project on my grama's house and i figured the trip would make some nice bonding time with my dad. i didn't know it, but my cousin, micha, would be accompanying us on the way down. she is a cute little eight year old (as if i don't spend enough time with cute little eight year olds...and some not so cute eight year olds) and by the time we ended the 4 hour drive i had discovered the following things: the name of every single person in micha's class, exactly which times tables she knows, and that she is REALLY good at the quiet game.
on the way home my dad had another flash of brilliance. why don't we buy some doughnuts for dinner? so we did. they were day old (cheap). and filled. and huge. and gooey. we got a jug of milk to wash down our doughnuts. and while we drove, we ate. we ate until we had sugar headaches. when the headaches wore off, we had more. then we had another for dessert. all while fondly recalling that glorious rainy day in sydney. it's those moments of family bonding that stay in your memory (and digestive tract) forever.

Holy Sh!t! I'm sick just reading that! Sorry for the swearing but really! Donuts for dinner? I mean... wait... I was the child that had little sugar donuts and pepsi for breakfast growing up in my southern town. What the hell was my mom thinking???
Y'all are crazy! Crazy Utahns!!! But kind of fun, too.
First off, your dad is so cool!
Second off, it took me clear to the end to figure out the "royal" part of your title....
third off, it was so great to see you!!
I am adding a trip to Australia to my must do before I die list, simply because I need that ice cream!
